What We Believe

Baptist heritage has taught First Baptist Church of Walterboro to cherish and defend religious liberty, and deny the right of any secular or religious authority to impose a confession of faith upon a church or body of churches. We honor the principles of soul competency and the priesthood of believers, affirming together both our liberty in Christ and our accountability to each other under the Word of God. 

We believe in one true God, who exists eternally
in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the full deity and humanity of Christ.

We believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit who dwells in every Christian for the purpose of living a God-reflective life.

We believe the human race is sinful and separated from God and therefore must experience the work of Christ by faith
in order to have a relationship with God.

We believe in the substitutionary atonement of Christ.

We believe that believers baptism by immersion and
the Lord's Supper are the two ordinances of the church.

We believe that the church is the Body of Christ and is to be
about His work of making disciples of Christ in the world.
